Apple Student & Education Discount 2026: How Much You Actually Save

Apple's education store gives students, parents and teachers a quiet year-round discount of roughly 5–15% on Macs, iPads and — new for 2026 — Apple Watch. In dollars that's about $100–$200 off a Mac, $20–$100 off an iPad, and $20–$80 off an Apple Watch. It's a real saving, but it comes with catches: iPhone is never included, since May 2026 you have to prove you're eligible through UNiDAYS, and there are strict limits on how much you can buy. Here's exactly how much you save on each product, who qualifies, and what to do if you don't.

How much is the Apple student discount?

Education pricing is a fixed lower price on Apple's education store, not a percentage-off coupon. The savings are biggest on Macs and on higher-spec, built-to-order configurations. These are the current U.S. education prices, checked June 2026 (after Apple's June 25, 2026 price adjustment):

The Apple Pencil Pro and standard Apple Pencil also carry a small (~$10) education saving. Prices move whenever Apple refreshes hardware, so treat the table as accurate for mid-2026.

Who qualifies for Apple education pricing?

More people qualify than most shoppers realise — but not everyone:

  • College and university students — including those who have been accepted but haven't started yet.
  • Parents buying on behalf of a college student.
  • Teachers, faculty and staff at any level — K-12 and higher education both count, including homeschool teachers.

The big exclusions: K-12 students themselves do not qualify, and neither do their parents — unless that parent is a teacher or homeschool educator (Macworld). There are also per-year purchase limits: one desktop Mac, one Mac laptop, two iPads, one Apple Watch and two accessories per academic year.

How Apple verifies you (this changed in 2026)

This is the part that's new. As of May 8, 2026, Apple requires shoppers in the U.S., Canada and Chile to verify student or educator status through UNiDAYS before checking out at education pricing — the same system the U.K. already used (MacRumors). You verify with an educational-institution email, a student or staff photo ID, or another valid education document. Most people are approved instantly, and manual reviews are usually decided within 24 hours. Before this change, the U.S. education store had essentially no checks — Apple only audited purchases after the fact — so the new step closes that loophole.

The Back to School promo: free AirPods on top

Once a year Apple layers a promotion on top of education pricing. In 2025 the U.S. Back to School offer ran June 17 – September 30 and gave a free pair of AirPods 4 with noise cancellation (a $179 value) with a qualifying Mac, or a lower-value accessory with an iPad (9to5Mac). Apple switched from the older gift-card format (up to $150 in 2022–2024) to free accessories.

A few things to know: the promo is higher-education only (Apple brands it the "College Student Offer"), it covers select Macs and iPads only, and it stacks on top of the education discount using the same UNiDAYS verification. Timing is usually mid-June to the end of September in North America and mid-July to mid-October in the UK and Europe. As of late June 2026 Apple hadn't yet launched the year's U.S. and Europe promo — unusually late, likely tied to the June price adjustment — so if you're a student, it's worth waiting for it to go live before buying (Macworld).

What education pricing does NOT cover

Two important limits. First, the iPhone is never part of education pricing — Apple has never discounted iPhone through the education store or the Back to School promo. Second, the per-year purchase caps above mean you can't kit out a whole family or resell devices. If you need an iPhone, or you've hit your limits, education pricing simply won't help.

If you don't qualify — other ways to pay less

Plenty of buyers aren't students or teachers, don't want to hand a photo ID to a third-party verifier, or want a phone (which is excluded anyway). A few routes still cut the price:

  • Apple Certified Refurbished — roughly 15–30% off with a full warranty, available to everyone year-round.
  • Timing — third-party retailers discount iPads and Macs hardest around Black Friday and Prime Day. See our best time to buy an iPad guide.
  • Pay with crypto at a locked price. At AppleBitcoin you can buy genuine, sealed iPhone, Mac, iPad and Watch with Bitcoin, Ethereum or stablecoins — no student ID, no UNiDAYS check, no card, and no iPhone exclusion. Your price is locked at checkout and shipping is free and insured worldwide. New to it? See the how-to-buy guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Apple student discount?

Roughly 5–15% off — about $100–$200 on Macs, $20–$100 on iPads and $20–$80 on Apple Watch. There is no education discount on iPhone.

Who qualifies for Apple education pricing?

Current or newly accepted college and university students, parents buying for them, and teachers, faculty and staff at any grade level (including homeschool teachers). K-12 students and their parents do not qualify unless the parent is an educator.

Do you need a student ID or .edu email?

Since May 2026 in the U.S., Canada and Chile, yes — you verify through UNiDAYS using a school email, a student or staff photo ID, or another education document. Most approvals are instant.

Can teachers get the Apple discount?

Yes. Teachers, faculty and staff at K-12 and higher-education institutions all qualify year-round, including homeschool teachers, who verify with an ID plus a homeschool document.

Can parents use the student discount?

Only when buying for a child who is a college or university student. Parents of K-12 children don't qualify unless the parent is themselves a teacher or homeschool educator.

Does the education discount work on iPhone?

No. iPhone is never part of Apple education pricing and is never included in the Back to School promo. Education pricing covers Macs, iPads, Apple Watch and some accessories only.

When is Apple's Back to School sale 2026?

Expected mid-June to the end of September in North America and mid-July to mid-October in the UK and Europe, based on 2025's dates. As of late June 2026 Apple had not yet officially launched the year's U.S. and Europe promo.

Are there purchase limits?

Yes — per academic year you can buy one desktop Mac, one Mac laptop, two iPads, one Apple Watch and two accessories at education pricing.
